Shailer Park State High School – Science and Teaching Blocks with Annexe

LEAF Building Group Pty. Ltd. were engaged to undertake the Refurbishment of the Teaching Blocks and Science Blocks at the Shailer Park State High School.
This project consisted of four separate classroom blocks:
1. Block N “Science Block
2. Block G
3. Block S
4. Block N – Annexe “Junior Science Block”
The scope of works consisted of the refurbishment of the 4 blocks including total internal demolition of joinery, floor coverings and removal of existing walls to make way for the new open plan design of the classrooms. Included in the project were Electrical, Hydraulic and Mechanical refurbishments and upgrades along with the installation of new windows and doors throughout the buildings.
All project objectives were met through the understanding of the school environment, the activities of the school and by maintaining the functionality of the work areas with minimal to no interruptions to the day-to-day operations.
Challenges that LEAF were faced with during construction was the discovery of Asbestos as well as the discovery of damage to buildings caused by Termites. Both were monitored and effectively removed through the consistent implementation of LEAF Building Group’s safety management system and procedures ensuring that the complexities of working within a school environment and the removal of hazardous materials were monitored and performed but professionals at the highest level of workmanship at all times.
